In meinem Podcast POWER OF RHYTHM möchte ich dich dazu inspirieren, die grundlegende Kraft des Lebens zu erforschen und zu erleben. Und das als Möglichkeit des Wachstums zu entdecken. Dafür lade ich eine unglaubliche Vielfalt an Gästen ein – von Neurowissenschaftlern, über Chronobiologen bis zu Weltklasse-Interpreten und Trendsetter in der rhythmischen Musik. Wir alle werden dir dadurch verschiedene Perspektiven auf eine Sache geben, die uns alle verbindet – RHYTHMUS.
POWER OF RHYTHM ist ein Musik-Podcast, in dem du eine Fülle verschiedener Musik- und Rhythmusbeispiele hören kannst. Wahrscheinlich wirst du diese Vielfalt nirgendwo anders finden können: alte koreanische Kut-Zeremonien, Comparsas und Musik vom Karneval in Kuba 1976, tiefe Techno- und Percussion-Performances einiger der besten Musiker unserer Zeit.

Reinhard studierte bei Tabla-Meistern in Indien, spielte beim Karneval in Brasilien in Sambaschulen und erkundete klösterliche Trommelriten und schamanisches Trommeln in Korea.
In seinem Buch erzählt er von Erfahrungen seiner Reisen und was ihn motivierte, die Wirkungen von Rhythmus zu erforschen.

In this episode, I discuss with Michael de Miranda about some similarities and differences of the rhythmic traditions of Brazil, Cuba and Africa, the balance between following tradition and creating your own combinations and how he built one of the first huge online percussion platforms starting unintentionally with a completely unknown Cuban rhythm.

In this episode, I discuss with Michael Spiro about the roots of Rumba, the role of drums in spiritual traditions such as Cuban Santería, the path he traveled to become first a conga player and then a priest in the Santería tradition, and the fascinating stories behind the formation of emblematic groups like Los Muñequitos de Matanzas and Afro-Cuba de Matanzas.

EPISODE #39: DAVID KUCKHERMANN – FINDING AN AUTHENTIC WAY OF DRUMMING
Get inspired by David, a versatile and creative percussion player who had the courage to craft his own style out of the many traditions he learned including Egypt, Europe, India, Turkey and Africa. David is a grammy nominee and a world-renowned handpan player. In this episode we talk about his musical compositions with handpan and world drums, the history of the hang created by PanArt, being fluent playing odd cycle rhythms and his online music school.

In this episode I talk with conga legend Giovanni Hidalgo about the feeling of groove, the mindset for training percussion, how the pioneering conga players like Candido and Tata Güines tuned their congas, Giovanni’s musical and life stories, the healing power of rhythm, the revival of MegaDrums and much more. Daf is a unique drum with a very special sound and Arash Zanganeh is one of the great masters of this drum, who uses it also in the traditional context and in world music. He is composer and percussionist in Brisbane. If you want to know more about the art of Daf drumming and its ancient roots, this episode is for you. EPISODE #36: RAFAEL REINA: SOUTH INDIAN RHYTHMS FOR WESTERN MUSIC
This episode is a very interesting journey through unusual rhythmic landscapes. Rafael Reina studied extensively the theory of South Indian Karnatic music and with this knowledge he developed the program “Contemporary Music through Non-Western Techniques”, which he teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He also composed three operas which have an intriguing rhythmic blueprint – contemporary music with the sensuality and driving power of rhythm.

In this episode I talk with rhythm vocalist Loire Cotler, who’s mission is to show the world the power of the voice as a rhythm instrument, and its super-human capacity to deliver to unimaginable. We talked about the amazing tunes of her album „18 wings“, her collaboration with Academy Award winning film composer Hans Zimmer, the Konnakol – South Indian music vocal percussion – and her life and musical stories with Glen Velez.

EPISODE #32: MARLA LEIGH – THE SACRED FRAME DRUMMING OF WOMEN
Marla Leigh’s music contains the magic of long additive cycles – mysterious, yet easy to follow when you move with them. This episode celebrates the wisdom of female drumming.
Marla continues the work of Layne Redmond and takes it to a whole new level. Her featured composition „Rhythms of Tof Miriam” goes back to the Exodus of the old testament.

EPISODE #31: GLEN VELEZ – FOUNDING FATHER OF THE MODERN FRAME DRUM MOVEMENT
Four time Grammy Award winner and founding father of the modern frame drum movement, Glen Velez shares his rich experience in our discussion.
He is specialized in frame drums from around the world. Velez’s virtuosic combinations of hand movements, and finger techniques, together with his compositions have opened new possibilities for musicians.

EPISODE #30: MANTAK CHIA & THE HEALING TAO – TRUE SOUND AND BRAIN ORGASM
Mantak Chia, a true Grand Master of Tao, shares his knowledge about the essential things in life: extended orgasms and sublime sex, health through balancing the energy in the organs and ultimately: love, joy happiness, as he expresses the goal of his work.

EPISODE #29: THE ENNEAGRAM AND BEYOND – THE WISDOM OF ELI JAXON-BEAR
Eli Jaxon-Bear is one of the leading experts in the Enneagram, a model created by Pythagoras and used for the human evolution.

It’s often the forces in the background, that give the music the real cool sound.
Viennese percussionist Andi Steirer certainly is one of those people who gave stars like Fendrich, Danzer or Alegre Correa the much-needed rhythm punch. Finding his way from within without teachers or mentors Andi Steirer became one of the most demanded percussionists in the Austrian music scene. And with this he has quite a story to tell.

EPISODE #20: SUFI SOUL – RHYTHM AND SOUNDS FROM WITHIN WITH PETER PANNKE
This musical journey will take you up and down the roads between Iran and Pakistan, Tajikisatan and Uzbekistan and all the way up to Morocco.
My guest is Peter Pannke, who did most of the field recordings himself. Peter studied the Indian Dhrupad tradition before he turned to Troubadour singing. He shares some of his amazing life stories in this episode.

He is a Professor in the Psychology Department and Center for Mind and Brain at the University of California, Davis. Janata incorporated functional neuroimaging methods into his music perception research. This talk complement the two previous episodes about groove.

ich habe mich sehr über deine Empowerment Episode in Deutsch gefreut.
Mein Englisch ist leider nicht gut genug um alles zu verstehen.
Ich teile deine Meinung und deine Einstellung zu dieser herausfordernden Zeit. Es wird nach Corona nicht mehr so sein wie davor und ich glaube, das ist auch gut so.
Wie oft hat man den Satz gehört „das kann doch nicht immer so weiter gehen, da muss doch mal was kommen“.
Jetzt ist es da – eine große Chance!!! Sicherlich wird es viel Mühe kosten und auch viel Unterstützung. Ich glaube an das Potential der Menschen, vor allem auch der jungen Menschen und will sie weiterhin – so wie du auch – auf ihrem Weg unterstützen, sich zu trauen und zu vertrauen auf ein gutes achtsames und respektvolles Miteinander.
Mögen alle Lebewesen glücklich sein.
